This is one of those mountains where one spends far more time driving to it than hiking it. So to make it worthwhile I hiked four other peaks in the area. A signed forest road goes all the way to the mountain where you can pickup a road that doesn't appear on maps. To get to this mountain turn off US-60 between Datil and Pie Town onto Forest Road 6 (signed) then about 1.2 miles later turn onto a signed Forest Road 199. You will need a high-clearance vehicle for FR-199. Stay on FR-199 to the "dead end" sign then go right on an unmarked forest road if you have a HC-4WD vehicle. That unsigned road will take you to a saddle that SE of the HP. The hike up gains 500 feet in less than half mile. A summit log can be found in a jar inside the summit cairn. View is limited to the N-NW.
