"This hike started at 9 AM with my grandpa. The trail was flat with rolling hills and decent views and was kind of boring. Then after a while of views and grass meadows, I reached San Juan Hill. It was a hill full of grass and the summit trail has a new sign for it. The summit had an antenna site, 3 benchmarks, a concrete sign, and some good views of the surrounding area. Then I went down the Bonivian Delight trail and then the trail and a sheer drop and also was very green and had mustard flowers. Then I passed by a creek and then a large overgrown meadow. Then I went down the Telegraph Canyon trail and then crossed over many creeks. Then after passing through a boring section with the only interesting thing being a windswept meadow, I reached the Easy Street Trail and climbed over the creek at the bottom of the trail. From there I climbed back up to the trailhead. " — lc444 • Apr 1, 2024
"I started at 9 AM at the Rimcrest trailhead. Then we went up the South Ridge. The South Ridge had great views and some beautiful flowers. Then we went down the rolling hills and had a great view towards the trailhead and the drive in. Then after the first flower vein, it is more grassy and has less flowers. Then after a while in these cool fields of grass. Then we summited San Juan Hill. The summit had an antenna site, 2 benchmarks, and a survey monument. The way down was in a large rainstorm" — lc444 • Mar 6, 2023
"I started a 7 am in the Rolling M Ranch Parking Lot. I hiked the Ridge Trail and after about 1 hour I found myself on the summit of San Juan Hill. The views were beautiful with Mustard adding more beauty. I did have some trouble finding the peak because the use trail was very small. Unfortunately, the photo size was too small so I didn't have any pictures to show you guys, but I have a video link that has all my pictures all the way at the bottom." — lcnguyen • Apr 24, 2021
"Summit #6 of San Juan Hill. I was intrigued to come back again since I uncovered a new trailhead that accesses Chino Hills State Park. From the Casino Ridge Trailhead in Yorba Linda, the trail cuts off a few miles from the usual old routes. From the parking lot, the trail goes between two white fences through the neighborhood and then upslope before reaching Chino Hills State Park. It feels a bit like being escorted out of the well-to-do neighborhood, but that's fine by me, given that it is another way into the park. The trail gains about 500 feet in roughly a mile before reaching the South Ridge Trail. I turned right and went the rest of the way to San Juan Hill." — MikeTeeples • Oct 10, 2020
"Whenever I don’t feel like driving very far, I keep San Juan Hill as my fallback plan. Today I activated that plan. I picked up the South Ridge Trail at Rim Crest Drive in Yorba Linda. The dirt road, known as the South Ridge Trail, leads right to San Juan Hill. Nice quick little outing in good hiking weather." — MikeTeeples • Dec 15, 2019
"Great weather with fantastic views of the mountains of the Angeles National Forest which are largely still in snow. From the parking area, went to San Juan Hill first, then crossed over to the other ridgeline and then back to get Gilmore Peak. Then back to the car. Barely saw anyone else." — marc • Jan 20, 2019
"Peaceful impromptu mid week hike to Chino Hills' highest point. San Juan Hill was my second of 2 summits of the day with Gilman Peak (1,685') being my first. I parked at the free-of-charge Rimcrest Drive Trailhead and hiked down Easy Street Trail to east on Telegraph Canyon Trail, then north up Gilman Trail to Gilman's summit. I returned down Gilman to Telegraph, and after scarcely 2 minutes on Telegraph heading east, I linked up to South Ridge Trail via the steep but short Little Canyon Trail. I followed South Ridge to the small, marked use path to San Juan Hill. I followed South Ridge back to my car at Rimcrest Trailhead. Excluding the climb to Gilman, the hike via South Ridge would have been roughly 6 mi. round trip with about 1000+' gain. The South Ridge Trail undulates a bit tallying up the elevation gain both out and back. The whole hike for me (Gilman and San Juan) was a little over 8.5 miles round trip with closer to 2,200' gain (out and back). The weather was overcast, breezy, and fantastically cool for early May making the hike mellow and moderate as opposed to hot and sweaty as it could be as there is very, very little shade. One big highlight is the stands of ..." — brianpowell • May 1, 2018
"Went up here on a Beautiful Spring day with steady moderate to strong wind. We approached from Rim Crest on the South Rim Trail. My girl and I enjoyed sitting in the grass on the northern slope of the peak out of the wind. We took our summit shots and the went down the delight trail to Telegraph Canyon where we made our way west and up to Gilman Peak." — 1-with-Nature • Apr 26, 2014
