"Beautiful out and back with my lovely girlfriend Lisa Crandall, temps about -1 to -4c on the summit with limited views and about 6" of soft granular snow, breaking the way with snowshoes to the summit and back. Perfect day to be out on the trails working on the Saranac Lake 6er challenge with a fire tower bonus!" — ramjet1963 • Jan 27, 2024

"7.68 miles round trip with 1682 feet of elevation gain. The first 2 miles were gentle, found several lions mane mushrooms along the way. The last mile & a half are a beast! Very steep & rocky. The views at the top are magnificent though!" — EmilyDoucet729 • Sep 25, 2021

"What a terrific hike, and views from the summit and tower! Hiked with whole family as part of the NENY Section of STANYS Alzheimer's Awareness hike. Great day for a great cause!" — christopherfink • Jun 19, 2021

"Fire tower challenge finish for me on this bluebird day. I was alone on the trail. If I was a fire tower keeper, I’d pick this to be my tower. It was fun to see so many of the mountains I’ve hiked all around in the distance. " — bethmorgan • Mar 19, 2021

"Saranac 6 Winter 1/6.
Solo.
I just realized I never logged this climb. This was my first real outing since I stupidly partially tore my Achilles’ tendon hiking in NH. On trail around 0730, a beautiful blue sky day. Crisp and calm with beautiful frost and snow in the trees from recent snowfall.
The trail was semi-broken out by one snowshoer and one bare-booter. It wasn’t ideal but not as bad as breaking trail alone so I made do. 1 hour 45 to summit. Didn’t see anyone else on the ascent and was wowed by my first ever full cloud inversion upon the summit. The colors were insane, there was a huge sundog, it was just absolutely wild. Never seen anything like it before and it felt really special. It was incredibly windy up there, so much so that I did not remove my snowshoes to get into the tower. I took a few photos and videos, & I met a pair of hikers with a beautiful black shepherd companion at the summit and we somewhat hiked together on the way out.
On the descent there were many people heading up, all bare booting or with spikes. Far be it for me to judge, but the trail was not packed enough for that kind of traffic and I was glad I had gone up and was well into comin..." — kellieirene • Jan 3, 2021

"Tom, Black and I summited St. Regis and were treated to a rare experience! A complete inversion. It was beautiful. I felt like I was on Everest looking down on all the clouds from above. Very cold and windy. Took pics for a girl , Kellie Rossner, that summited a moment before us. Kellie and I have much in common and have stayed in touch regularly. Beautiful day and a rare lasting memory. " — garyogden • Jan 3, 2021

"Great day, the weather held out, the trail was nicely broken in making snow shoeing real pleasant. Love this trail, very open woods and scenic!
The views from the summit never disappoint." — hbotc • Jan 25, 2020
"I wanted to enjoy the views on St Regis without freezing to death this time. So I went up there first. Then drove up to do Azure. Then drove down and did Ampersand to finish my Saranac 6. Incredible mountain to finish on. " — newenglandwarrior • Jun 23, 2019

"Saranac Lake Winter 6er ✅ A solo finish and had the mountain all to myself. Speedy trails (3 hours from car and back with ample summit time), blue skies, and absolutely no wind. A quiet and peaceful morning. I am still green with winter hiking and always learning. Today’s thoughts: I look back at this time last year and learned I was trying to please someone who wasn’t happy with their own self and got away from what makes me happy, no more. Onto larger winter goals for next season." — scottturner • Mar 9, 2019
"A cold but clear day. I don't think the temp even hit the teens. Moved quickly to stay warm. Mostly flat trail. Beautiful views from the summit. Did not go up the fire tower. Then quickly headed back so I could make the long drive back to Portsmouth. 6.8 miles." — newenglandwarrior • Jan 7, 2019
