"Saw my (small) first diamondback rattlesnake after living in Arizona for exactly two years!
Used old OHV trails from the Horseshoe Dam road to get close to the mountain, then a use trail to the saddle between the NW hill and the actual peak. Then it was all about bushwhacking on a steep a loose slope to a little mesa below the summit where some Native American ruins overlook the North-East valley. Please do not disturb anything.
The views of the Mazatzal Mountains and the Lower Verde Valley with its two reservoirs are fantastic.
We tried a different route on the way down to the saddle, somewhat less steep but brushier.
Cloudy, breezy weather." — Gabsolute • Nov 4, 2017
