"Another epic day! Feeling great! Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback for #39, #40, and #41. 4:28 AM start, 3:06 PM sign out from register, roughly 19 miles. Saddleback cliffs were not as bad as advertised. Only Cliff/Redfield, Allen, Marshall, and finish on Colden to go. 👍🏻⛰" - scottturner, Sep 10, 2017
"Had to be one of the greatest days to hike, cool and breezy, clear skies. The hike up Saddleback and Basin was awesome. We started from the Garden parking area made our way to Johns Brook Lodge followed the Ore Bed Brook trail, climbed the stairs on the slide of Saddleback made it to the summit, down the south side and up to Basin. Went down the south side of Basin to the gorge between Basin and Haystack. Then we went back via the trail to Slant Rock lean to and the trail to Johns Brook Lodge. Toughest part was hiking down Saddleback, a bit tricky and steep, I would rather hike up that way!" - hbotc, Aug 26, 2017
"Figured I was right there at JBL, so why not go get Saddleback before heading home? Despite being sore from Basin/Haystack the day before, the trip up the Ore Bed trail wasn't bad. Managed to get up & down in about 3.5 hours from JBL." - cbp5800, Jul 3, 2017
"Cold day in the ADK (-15F windchill on the valley floor, colder as elevation increased). A little tricky on the slide. Stay to the left and look for the trail marker back into the woods. Ended up climbing the slide to the top and then had to bushwack to find the trail again. Trivia fact: there are 14 log bridges between the Garden lot and the John's Brook Interior Outpost." - walterczekaj, Mar 11, 2017
"Solo. Haystack, Basin, Saddleback. After a tricky descent off of Basin, I really loved the short almost flat cut looking trail in the col. I heard loud voices ahead of me and upon getting to the bottom of the infamous Saddleback Cliffs, discovered 3 hikers a few years younger than me, 2 girls and a guy. They were taking a break before ascending and after one of them really struggled to get up onto the initial part of the cliff, I attempted and succeeded at another part & they assured me I should go first (& seemingly they took a few cues from me as to how to climb it!). There were a few shaky " - kellieirene, Sep 28, 2016
