"Route: NW ridge via Devil’s Gap approach
Stats: 28km, 1800m
Difficulty: Scrambling required to traverse exposed slabs and climb short cliff bands. Loose terrain above tree-line to summit (mostly talus). Route-finding is required as there are no trails.
Notable: We summitted this peak exactly 6 years after the last party. We were the 4th party to sign the register since 1993. Chelsea is the only female in the register!
Approach: Devil’s Gap to LM-31 is well established and easy to follow. We biked the first 4km. We could have pushed our bikes an extra couple hundred meters through overgrowth to get back on a bike friendly terrain.
Ascent: There are no hiking trails established between LM-31 and the summit. Hikers have an option to follow the drainage or bushwhack the slopes. We chose to bushwhack as the forest wasn't too dense, there were many game trails, and we figured we'd save our ankles for the scree slopes above. After about 1km of travel in the trees, we found ourselves adjacent to another drainage, which we travelled for 100m before realizing it wouldn't go.
