"12.11.25~Full South to North/Shore to Shore traverse of Saddle Island. CC Loop taking the west foothills back. Was going to take the Eastern Shoreline back but I think it turns into a cliffy shoreline in the area below the giant metal Hatchery contraption. Warm day. 7.5 miles, 800’ gain and took me 3:30hrs. I jumped into the water when I reached it on the North end of the route. It was cool and clean. Saw a freshly dead coyote (rip) and cans from the 70’s era. Fun." — paula.raimondi • Dec 11, 2025
"12.8.25~3.5 miles, 800’ gain in 1:46hrs w/Jimmy. 2:52pm start from the North with the sun starting to set behind the River Mtns just as we were leaving the Summit. Another scenic indulgent ridge route to this peak (not the most direct) The views after sunset on the return were beyond Exquisite! December shorts and tee shirt weather. "12.7.2025~4.5 miles, 700’ gain in 1:50hrs. A jog/hike down the Berm & stairs, across the dry cove to the lowest start of the south end of ridge. Gratuitous mileage to shake off seasonal depression. There are closer places to start. " — paula.raimondi • Dec 7, 2025
"12.17.2020~3 Peaks, 10 miles, 2,400’ gain, 4:40hrs of bliss in the River Mtns on the Lake Mead side. Owl Hill, Bighorn Butte (aka Long View Peak) and the Spectacular Saddle Island Summit with grand views of the water. I used the White Owl Canyon loop (CCW) via 33 hole lot Trailhead, to access the 1st 2 peaks. It’s the best kept secret in the LMNRA....I drove to Boulder Harbor to do Saddle Island Peak. I was graced by a herd of 6 muscular and majestic rams. It was breathtaking to see them gallop off in all their glory and majesty....a safari right in my own backyard. A gloomy and chilly morning eventually gave way to sun and warmth. I crossed paths with curious crows cruising and floating in the updraft and a giant hawk. So much beauty in Southern Nevada. One lifetime isn’t even enough to see it all.
