"Beautiful day with friends exploring the JimBilNan wilderness in LMNRA. This hike starts about a mile down boathouse cove road and takes you through beautiful washes until you reach the base of the peak. Once on top we were greeted with views of Lake Mead. Most of the elevation on this hike is on the way back up the washes to the trailhead. " — maggielynn • Jan 10, 2024
"11.9.2020...JimBilNan Wilderness, South Cove & Shark Fin peaks, solo. 10 miles, 2,800’ gain, 5:14hrs. I snuck into this area peakbagging when Covid Shut down LMNRA. I wasn’t able to get these because I was sneaking in thru VoF and they shut it down soon after.....then the heat came and I had to wait. Got them today! It was 50 deg at a nearly 10am start but as I headed down it warmed up quite a bit. It had me stripping off clothing down to a running bra and shorts. This remote area is so gorgeous. It’s a chaotic landscape with rugged beauty. I saw wild horses and almost stepped on a baby rattler. Saw a herd of Bighorn next to the road on the drive in. I consumed 1 liter of water and 2 snack bars. Great Day. Hard Work. " — paula.raimondi • Nov 9, 2020
"This was my fourth time. Went to clean up macabre bone pile left up top by a hiking group. They literally collected every bone & tortoise shell which had been in the wash for as long as I've been hiking down there. So much for Leave No Trace & Wilderness ethics...By taking the bones, they erased the history of the wash & robbed other hikers of the chance to see them. No one knew of these peaks until I took a friend who, unbeknownst to me, put the GPS tracks online...ugh. This is a prime example of why I'm reluctant to share..." — StudioHoodoo • Nov 19, 2017
"We had friends in town from Bavaria who wanted to go hiking. Since the Mount Charleston and Red Rock areas were too snowy/icy, we opted for one of the best Lake Mead hikes instead. Perfect temps and a wonderful group. Thanks, Frederic & Edyta!" — Kevin • Jan 21, 2017
"What a great hike with LVMC! We parked about a mile down Boathouse Cove Road, then took a series of washes and ridges to get to the base of S Cove Peak. The views from this peak are some of the best I've seen! We had a great view of some of the peaks in the new Gold Butte National Monument & the sun was shining beautifully off of the lake. Also, we found 2 tortoise shells, numerous random bones and a freshly killed & eaten bighorn sheep carcass. This area doesn't get visited much and that's a shame! Total distance was about 9.86 miles, with about 3100 feet of cumulative gain (a good portion of that was on the return)." — Kevin • Jan 8, 2017
"It took me 3 trips to figure out a route for this one. Was very happy to finally make it. Sadly, someone put the gps tracks online & people can now just download & make an easy trek down there..." — StudioHoodoo • Nov 10, 2013
