"Attempted a Great Range Traverse on September 23, 2022
But a freak snow storm, freezing temps, 40mph wind, and a soaking wet mountain range said "no".
Modified the plan to exit Gothics towards Pyramid, pick up Sawteeth, and head down the Weld Trail. Afterwards we had to walk out 4.5 miles along Lake Road through AMR and another 2.5 back to the Inn along Route 73 after dark.
Memorable." — ndru-virus • Sep 23, 2022

"Nice views at the top of this well maintained and marked trail. Adding on the Snow Mtn loop made this a good workout! Limited views from Snow but worth the climb to knock out 2 29'rs!" — Retiredtop2004 • Aug 22, 2021

"Tom, Black and I left the trailhead around 8:30 under overcast skies at 47 degrees. We carried snowshoes and micros expecting to need them because of a report I read 8 days earlier. Much to my surprise trail conditions were dry with neither snow or ice. Mud was minimal. More like summer conditions than spring. Views from the summit were good but nothing like winter conditions. The snows had us spoiled. We hiked the Rooster Comb-Snow loop counter clockwise next heading to Snow Mtn." — garyogden • Apr 11, 2021

"Hedgehog is a viewless summit but Snow & Roostercomb had your classic gorgeous adirondack views. There was a thick blanket of leaves that were slippery but beautiful. The foliage is way past peak but still lots of bright yellow trees with leaves dotted the landscape." — dallasdevries • Oct 22, 2020

"Intended only Rooster Comb and Snow Mountain today but was close to Lower Wolf Jaw and said to myself I’ll tack that on too. The red foliage colors are starting to pop. Giant Mountain looked beautiful from afar.
Had all summits to myself which I enjoy. I met a couple while descending who were from California and trying to avoid the wildfires. I told them it’s been unusually dry for these parts as of late, they chuckled and said it is lush compared to where they are which placed things in perspective. I offered them suggestions for places to explore and directions from memory while they visit. They asked if I was a Ranger. I laughed and pointed at my hat and said no but I do like wandering the woods.
The only downer was that my boots split, so looks like I have an excuse to get a new pair. A beautiful beautiful day. " — scottturner • Sep 20, 2020

"Heavy clouds, light rain, wind gusts...but still a beautiful summit! The trail was well marked and well maintained. I would like to return on a clearer weather day to fully appreciate the views. " — DeliriumTrigger • Sep 1, 2020

"Solo. I’ve passed this trailhead a thousand times, so when I was trying to figure out what to climb for #199 & #200, I figured this would be a good pick. Not too long following the recent snowstorm, and smaller peaks.
Just call me the strugglebus captain. I got on trail around 0830 to bright blue skies and blinding white fresh snow. The first part of the path had been moderately broken by local cross country skiers, but following that, it was just me against the snow. The lower elevation was a nice walk, maybe 6” to break trail over. I tried my best to go “point to point” - trail marker to trail marker, but some of them were spread out a bit too far & I did wander off trail a bit here and there.
As I gained elevation, I started hitting the “double sink”- fresh powder, a layer of ice to break through, more powder under it. The trail breaking was really not fun at this point. I was slogging at a ~1MPH pace. When I hit the junction for the blue trail up Rooster Comb, I had a very hard time finding the trail. I broke out to Valley View Ledge and was extremely pleased with the incredible view! High winds, however. I went back the way I came, then broke out the .3 to the true sum..." — kellieirene • Feb 14, 2019

"This was my first attempt at snowshoeing. Since I have hiked this a few times before, I have a time effort comparison. Snowshoeing is definitely more effort and hopefully calories burned, he he. It was a nice day. I found myself getting overheated on the way up, but was cold on the way down. I came down in microspikes on the packed trail. It felt wonderful and easy as this is mostly a gradual incline/decline. I only fell in one hole off the trail. Yup, the snow is deep at the top. Winter came early to the Adirondacks this year." — bethmorgan • Nov 10, 2018

"First of a 3 peak day. The weather was supposed to be "light rain" but it held off and we were treated to some gorgeous views at the top. Views of Giant, Noonmark, Hedgehog, LWJ, UWJ, Armstrong, Marcy, Algonquin and many more. Had this on my "to do list" for a while now, now it's done, and I'm happy we went Today. I also would recommend that anyone climbing this peak, check out the view point on the other side. There is a sign about .4 of a mile from the summit pointing to the right to the view point .1 miles away." — HikingViking • Aug 7, 2017

"The trail is a gradual but constant incline. Most of the trail is easy climbing aside from a few rocky spots towards the summit. The view was amazing. I recommend to anyone in shape. We will do again when it is not so hot" — kathyrowney • May 27, 2016
