"This fell lies on the Warcop military range. Access to this wild and lonely area is restricted to non-firing days, which are not often. No firing takes place over the Christmas period, so this is the time I chose for my ascent. I parked at the edge of the village of Hilton near Appleby-in-Westmoreland and took the path east up Scordale beside the beck, turning south to climb the steep north ridge (use of hands required in a few places) onto the plateau. An ATV track around its rim brought me up to the significant summit cairn. To descend, I continued south towards the col, turning west to pick my way down through the crags, wary of lying ordnance. A sheep track north took me down to some sheep pens and my car.
Weak winter sunshine at first, clouding over a little later, but no rain. A strong north-westerly impeded the ascent." — marktrengove2 • Dec 29, 2018
