Took the Bessequartz ridge approach from CCC trail. Left ridgeline at Quartz tarn elevation. Traversed steep sideslope with heavy brush towards Quartz tarn. Circled back side of tarn and summited Quartz. 4,657. Descended Quartz towards Rockyquartz on dirt saddle. Ascended backside of Rockyquartz on ramp. Summited Rockyquartz. 4,616. Descended Rockyquartz and went back up Quartz. Descended Quartz to tarn and ascended Bessequartz via talus to the ridge intersect below summit. Summited Bessequartz. 4,559. Descended ridgeline. 13:20 car-to-car.
My Garmin inReach had the Quartz summit boulder at 4,657 and the Rockyquartz summit highpoint at 4,616. Quartz summit boulder is higher by plus or minus 41 feet. Quartz is definitely higher for Homecourt 100 purposes, but Rockyquartz makes the slog worth it. This trip is the fourth time in summer months that I have been on this mountain for the purpose of one or a combination of these peaks. Quartz is a hateful climb in the summer, and is often underestimated. Start VERY early. This isn't one to descend in the dark. Routefinding skills are a must. Add a couple hours to include Rockyquartz. The Quartz summit isn't great, but the Rockyquartz summit is. The backside ramp is a little bushwhack walk and scramble; steep, but no real exposure. No rope needed. Do it on a nice day-- the views of the middle fork are awesome.
