"From Rocky Peak Park I took the Rocky Peak Trail up to the west slope, then took the summit use trail to reach the top. The summit trail isn’t always obvious, but it got the job done. Good to be back again. Last time was 15 years ago." — MikeTeeples • May 9, 2026
"The last of 3 hikes today. Started with Stoney Point, then Garden of the Gods, and finally Rock Peak. I drove to each trailhead (I wanted to string all 3 hikes together without breaks but the connecting streets aren't very walkable).
It was way more busy than expected, but still found a parking spot. Weather was sunny with a nice cold breeze. You could see the distant Topatopa and San Gabriel mountains capped in snow.
The trail was 4 miles, and mostly easy, except the end. The final half mile (maybe less) had some clambering. After my Cathedral Peak hike earlier this month, I was completely done with clambering for a while and pretty bummed to see it today.
Just the wrong time for me lol. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the mood for this type of trail again." — oskar156 • Feb 21, 2026
"Disclaimer: I don't have the pictures here because Peakery did not accept them. They are in my new video on my channel about Rocky Peak.
But anyways here is my story. I started out this trip at 10 AM, mostly because I woke up late today and I got other things to do in the morning. But I started out on my mountain bike and slowly biked up the steep and rocky fire road. The fire road was hella steep until House Cave. We got some great views along the way. Then I had a house tour of House Cave and saw the great views from the cave. Then I pushed on to a bench with a great view of the CA-118 freeway. Then I went to the junction with the Hummingbird trail and then saw the Turtle Rock and Fish Rock. After that I went onto the small use trail to Rocky Peak and the after some scrambling, I made it! There were some great views toward Los Angeles and Ventura County, as well as Oat Mountain. There was a survey marker (benchmark) at the top and the register. Then I mountain biked down. "Not too bad of a hike. until the end getting to the peak where there was no defined trail, and a lot of boulder/brush scrambling. But we made it to the peak at the benchmark and box. The scramble down was even harder as we kept losing the trail. Once back on the "main road", then easy peasy." — marc • May 1, 2021
"Great day to hike to Rocky Peak. It was cool and cloudy. Explored around the summit area. (Be careful with the false summits). Signed the register. Found the benchmark. Great views!" — rickb • May 21, 2019
"Returned to attain the summit on Presidents' Day after lounging around on the lower trail a few weekends prior. This place has the most professional summit log set up you could imagine. Left an entry. Was bid farewell by a squawky crow." — squeezeboxsam • Feb 22, 2014
"2nd hike of the day after LPC Peak "Mission Point." 2.9 mile ascent w/1,550' gain (+500' loss) on Rocky Peak Trail and class 2/3 side trails for fun and practice. Peak register is in an electrical box, boulder hopping req'd! 5.6 mile r/t w/~2,100' gain total this hike." — BradStemm • Apr 10, 2013
"Took a brief off trail scramble trying to still make it to the summit but just wound up stranded at a false summit with no way down but to backtrack. Made for a nice change of pace though with great rock formations." — Christopher • Apr 29, 2012
"lived in Simi my whole life and never made it to the true summit, lol. Finally decided to get this one on my list officially. good to go. Side note saw two rattle snakes on the trail so they are back in action, be careful." — nickmartin • Mar 10, 2012
