"Favorite route to Charlie. I've done it 5 times now, trying 3 different descents. Today's was preferred, however all routes result in 8 hours almost to the minute.
The weather was fabulous up there today. " — DudeAlmighty • Oct 10, 2024

"The route up to Lee Peak from Ski Lee has some very technical sections on the cliff bands near the top. There is one short Class 5 climb that is in a very tight crack that is best done without your backpack on. If you are not experienced climbing on Mt. Charleston rock, then this is not the route for you. The section of track recorded for the descent off of Rocketship could use a little smoothing out. There are several cliff bands below the peak, so you must stay left, south, to avoid them. We zigzagged a few times trying to get down/around them. The route down to and off of Wallace Canyon Pahrump Overlook is nothing technical. The final descent from the ridge line that runs north of Lee Peak was not the usual route we would take. We would usually go north on the ridge line and drop down on to the Bristlecone trail. That trail was closed due to washouts from Hurricane Hillary. So, we took the side hilling descent back over to Ski Lee and down. A little more challenging and longer time. " — Heartattackbruce • Jul 26, 2024

"Took a new route up to Lee Peak....directly up from the top of the chairlift at Ski Lee. There was a lot of route finding to be able to get up the multiple cliff bands on that side of the mountain. There were class 5 climbs that were extra challenging because of the crumbly Charleston limestone. Definitely need to do this route again to see if it can be improved. From Lee we summit Rocketship. After that the next peak was Wallace Canyon Pahrump Overlook which involved a little route finding, but not too bad. We left Rocketship, down the west side, until we could get below the cliff bands that surround the peak on the south, west and north. Once below the cliff bands we found the ridge line that runs directly down to Wallace Canyon Pahrump Overlook. The exit was a simple, level traverse over to the Lee ridge line and down what would be known as the "standard" route. Not a bad route at all. It's a keeper! " — Heartattackbruce • Aug 17, 2023

"Took a roundabout way to get here...through Wallace Canyon Pahrump Overlook. There's a steep ridge line to go up from Wallace and some tall cliff bands at the top which can be overcome by working southwest around them. Overall, a very interesting route. " — Heartattackbruce • Sep 25, 2022

"What a fun day! Harlan took Ritch and I up a new route (to us) to Lee Peak. From there, we traversed over to Rocketship, then to the base of Devils Thumb, our main objective. Devils Thumb is a technical crumbly limestone tower, just off of the North Loop Trail. Every time I walk by it, I wonder what it would be like to climb this thing. Luckily, Harlan had the same idea. I will not share our technique for ascending this monolith, but I will say that it was indeed shitty rock and not easy. Once at the top, we saw no signs of anyone else ever being up there; none of us know of anyone who has ever climbed it. I guess this is the first known ascent. I left a register, we rapped down & made our way back to the saddle between Rocketship and Lee Peak. Harlan's plan was to reascend Lee Peak, so we could descend the same route we came up. Ritch and I didn't feel like going up any more, so we agreed to all try to descend from where we were over loose scree, hoping not to cliff out. We found a route that worked, working around cliffs until we intersected the ridge we came up. From there, we followed the paths/trails back to the cars." — Kevin • Oct 10, 2021

"Happy 4th of July, 2021, from the Charleston Peak (#108, 6th in 2021)! Side trip to Rocketship Peak too. 8.3 miles Round trip, 4,000’ gain, 6:45hrs. We were treated to cool weather, cloud cover, light rain and views ta die fer. We took the short but steep Ski Lee Slopes to the ridge then Devils Thumb Shortcut to the Peak. Jimmys 1st time taking Devils Thumb! Good for him!" — paula.raimondi • Jul 5, 2021

"Started with 52 Peak Club to Griffith, then broke off SOLO to Charlie, down the north ridge via Devil's Thumb route, up to Rocketship, Lee and the old USGS rain gauge. Had planned on going to Mummy as well but when I reached the base of the climb I decided to call it since I was down to 0.5 L of water and running out of daylight as well. All in all an excellent day training up for my Whitney attempt in 3 weeks. 66º at Charlie Pk around 1:30PM." — DudeAlmighty • Jun 15, 2021

"Stopped after Lee Peak on our way to Charleston Peak from the ski lodge. I saw this peak on Peakery and took the group I was leading up to it as well even though they don't use Peakery. Fun three peak day." — acekelly • Aug 19, 2018

"We took Trail Canyon up to the North Loop Trail, then took the scree slope up towards Mummy. Instead of turning right toward Mummy Mountain, we turned left and followed the ridgeline. There were many interesting sights on the way to Lee Peak. From Lee, we continued down, then back up the ridge to Rocketship Peak, which I had not been to before. After that, we descended and climbed up the class 4 Devil's Thumb shortcut to Charleston Peak. The weather was starting to look sketchy, so we didn't stay there long. We descended the North Loop Trail back to Trail Canyon. That ridge route was extremely enjoyable! I'll definitely follow that route again!" — Kevin • Jul 29, 2017

"This was part of a three peak day: Lee, Rocketship and Charleston. We took Trail Canyon to The North Loop then the scree slope towards Mummy but headed left and followed the ridge line to Lee. After reaching Rocketship we took Devil's Thumb to Charleston. The weather started to look sketchy. We spent little time on Charleston Peak and then headed down The North Loop back to Trail Canyon. The ridgeline provides some spectacular views and you run across some interesting things along the way. I highly recommend this route." — MoneyPenny • Jul 29, 2017
