"As far as I can determine, Rock Knob is the 12th highest named highpoint in Indiana. At the time I wrote this report, this website ranked Rock Knob as only the 30th highest with an elevation of just 955 feet. This is not correct. The actual elevation is over 1010 feet. Locals call this highpoint "Beacon Hill" because there used to be an aviation beacon on the summit. In fact, the tower for the beacon is still on the summit with a ladder attached that allows an ascent above the trees for a better summit vista, but I strongly suggest that you not trust the platform at the top of the tower. The wood looked very old and a fall from that height would likely be fatal. It is best to stay on the ladder for your views, or better yet, just stay on the ground and take a summit victory photo instead. We son, Marshall, and I reached Rock Knob from the north. "This peak is on private property. We found the land owners to be friendly and excepting of hikers. The property is beautiful with a trail to the summit. The land owners showed us the trail and even hiked with us for a few minutes. The trail winds and turns around a large pond and up steep ridge lines to the summit. There is a small tower on the summit." — marshallstewart • Nov 8, 2014
