" I have always dreamed with a mountain view. With the ever-changing snow and cloud patterns around the top, LOlli(Lotli) shows a new face every day, making the view from Neskaupstadur so picturesque and special." — rakeshmadhara • Jun 12, 2020

"We landed at Keflavik and drove to our Airbnb in Hafnarfjordur, then decided after 2 pm to drive over to and hike up Esja. It won’t be that hard, I thought; it’s not even 1,000 meters and we hike peaks close to 2,000 meters every year in North Carolina. However, it was raining lightly and windy the entire hike and we were both jet-lagged. We went up about 3 km and decided to turn around. My wife was feeling miserable and mad at me for pushing onward. She had broken her foot a year ago but it was hurting now. She made the right call. Loved the dramatic scenery. We also saw many locals hiking up in running clothes as if it were just another blustery day, which it was for them." — tlannin • Jul 28, 2019

"Tom and I saw this volcano out of the car window and decided it would be a fun climb to enjoy the sunset. We hiked to the summit of the volcano and around the edge of the summit cone. When we reached the summit I realized that I had lost one of my earrings that Tom had bought me for my birthday. We looked for it as we retraced our steps, but we never found it. When I took my sweater off back at the car the backing to the earring fell out, but no earring. That earring is somewhere on the summit of a volcano in Iceland forever. "As part of a 32hr 80km hike of the Langevegur Trail with Skogar to Thorsmork bonus on day 1. Arrived 9pm on Wed night, fresh after 72 hrs out of a week long mountaineering trip in Krygystan, slept in rental car and drove to trailhead Thursday morning. Hit the trail in the crowds of tourists at 11am. Banged off 39km day 1 in 12 hrs and 1000m ascent and descent over the pass in cold rain and fog and walking in snow. Next day woke to sunshine and banged the last 40km again largely uphill another 1000m with 99% of the people going the other direction before descending into the final camp with hot spring!" — alexjoseph • Aug 3, 2017
"Decided to hike to the summit of this dormant volcano after seeing it out of the car window while driving. Ended up summiting around midnight when the sun is just hitting the horizon in Iceland at this time of the year. Beautiful views after a short hike to the summit of the volcano." — LGH-Tom • Jul 11, 2017
