"Leaving the Hut at 6am, we watched a nice sunrise from the Fay glacier, Ascended the west ridge route,.The snow couloir was quite soupy from the overnight rain and no freeze, although penetration on the glacier itself was only ankle deep. Due to conditions we pitched out the couloir, in 2 full 60 meter pitches from the bergschrunds. Also pulled out the rope for a couple of the more exposed rock bands, happy to have brought along a few cams. We were greeted at the summit by a couple incoming thunderstorm cells, so we quickly made our way down. 3 bolted rappels brought us back the snow couloir, which we then did another 3 60 meter rappels to the base. The first being a conveniently located rock horn on on a pillar on climbers right. The other 2 from v-threads, finishing by rapping over the 3-4 open bergschrunds. Luckily the only weather that actually hit us we was at the base of the snow couloir, which quickly passed with only minor hail and a couple closer than comfortable lightning strikes. "The first km or so is along the access road to the fire lookout. Eventually I hung a sharp left to begin ascending via the Roberta Route trail, bushwhacking for about 30 minutes. There was the occasional yellow ribbon to help when the trail disappeared. I’m sure the trail was still there, the bush is just thick in some sections.
Above tree line, things were straight forward to the summit. A few loose sections and some scrambling to avoid it. The views were better than I expected, so that was a treat. I headed over to GR 379101 because I wanted to scope out a possible traverse to the summit of Mt. Pocaterra. Looks possible… I’ll explore further in the future.
Following other trip reports I’ve read, I descended the drainage directly below GR 379101. It was fine until things got a little thicker below treeline. Sidehilling on loose dirt and through bush was hell… but luckily short lived. Once I was back on the fire lookout trail, it was smooth sailing back to the car. I’m definitely interested in scoping out that traverse. Will have to research more to see who’s done it. " — ivo • Aug 14, 2022

"Great to get this classic done. We got some rain on the way down plus a rainbow over Rae glacier! This one felt more difficult than moderate with the exposure and a few class 4 moves near the top." — yurilemermeyer • Aug 13, 2022

"Loved this summit, some of the best views I've ever had! A pretty straightforward ascent, a bit sloggy but the views more than make up for it. I'd call it a moderate scramble, and it's on the easier side. Just keep traversing until it looks easy enough to go up. Bring a camera!! Under 6 hours hut to hut. The Woolley Shoulder lived up to its reputation, it's a pretty nasty ascent and slow descent. The river crossing was no problem on the way in, just above the knees and even lower on exit. Sweet! Perfect weekend here. " — jakefinnan • Aug 12, 2022
