Day 2 of a 2 day trip to the Lake District. Another hot sunny day. We set off from Buttermere village, walked around the head of the Lake, and up through the forest, before emerging on the open hillside and walking up to Bleaberry Tarn at 500m. From here, we resisted the lure of a cooling dip in the mountain tarn and carried on up to the col between Dodd and Red Pike. A short detour to Dodd, before continuing upward in the red shale to the summit of Red Pike. Here we enjoyed good views all around the Lake District. After a short break in the sun, we continued along the ridge to High Stile 807m and then above Comb Crags to High Crag 744m. Here we enjoyed good views across Ennerdale to Pillar, and up the valley to Great Gable. We dropped doen steeply to the top of Scarth Gap pass, and then down to the SE end of Buttermere Lake, where we joined the lakeside path back for 2 miles back to Buttermere village
