"I hiked up to the Kendall Katwalk, and scrambled up to the minor peak above it. It's a long way up the winding PCT, and I kept wondering if there is a good short-cut. If there is, it would be steep, at least 45 degrees. I went very directly up to Kendall Peak a year and a half ago, in deep snow. The appearance of the forest is so different in the summer - hard to recognize it as the same place. This was my first time getting to the Katwalk, it's very cool. Just beyond, I scrambled up to the left. The best route might be to go up and sharply left to get on the large talus field. I did this going up, but went further east coming down, which was more difficult. This peak, at 5700 ft, does not seem to have a name. As I got closer to the Katwalk, looking left at Red Mountain, it became evident that there is not an alternate route to Red via this little peak. Please see other recent reports for great photos: my pictures look just like that! I met a few interesting people. Two guys who were (separately) hiking down from Stevens Pass and had been camping for several nights.
