"Our high school Mountain Ventures group spend 2 weeks in Mount Zirkel wilderness. We were four girls and eleven guys, plus 2 college counselors and our main guide/Biology Teacher. One morning, we climbed Red Elephant Mountain. Most of the two weeks, we were showered in rain. However, on the morning we climbed Red Elephant, the sun came out for awhile. On top of Red Elephant, we saw valleys full of fog, which looked like long, huge cotton rivers, stationary in movement. After awhile, the sun burned off the fog, and the area of seven lakes was visible below in the mist. It was one of the most beautiful mornings I've ever had. I was 16 years old. I wrote a poem about it, and they put it in the school yearbook: "I mined a morning dewdrop on a morning mountaintop, and saw cotton rivers which did not flow. And, when the sun had risen, there stood seven lakes a-glisen, like Heaven, cuddled in the mist below." It's an easy climb and beautiful. Highly recommend you do it!" — katgiffin • Jul 11, 1973
