"First hike in Washington back in January 2017. Don't really consider this a peak but I have to include it as it started my two best relationships. One with my girlfriend and the second with the Mountains of Washington! " — Happyjoecappy • Jan 13, 2017
"Young couple with boombox on the trail... not surprised, though. If you go to Rattlesnake, you get the whole Rattlesnake package. Steeper than I imagined for a crowd that draws such a large number of diverse people, but not difficult. Good views and a great lunch rock. Hope to continue up Rattlesnake Mountain someday" — minischankie • May 27, 2016
"This is a great 10.2 mile end-to-end Ridge hike if you can avoid the crowds. We started at sunrise (only 5 cars in the parking lot). By the time we got back there was parking "spill out" of at least 30 cars outside the parking lot. This place may rival Disneyland for crowds. Yikes.
We went to the Ledge first and then continued the entire length to the other side.
Even though I shouldn't be surprised, I didn't expect the snow that we encountered (after the Ledge). Most of the South side of the ridge (and the primary ascent) had about 4-5 inches of packed snow starting at 2,300 feet. At the top and for about 1 mile the snow was more like 1.5 foot. There had been enough foot traffic before us that a snow trail was laid out for the entire length. The snow was with us until we dropped through 2,400 feet on the North side." — herdingcats • Mar 23, 2014
"Left with a leisurely alpine start at 11:50am from base camp. First 1/2 mile of trail in good condition, some bushwacking with branches overhead along narrow wooden bridge around gate near start in parking lot, proceed with caution. Took main trail from lake. No snow at beginning of climb, no ice axe/crampons required, but had them and full avy gear anyway. Some rocky sections along the climb, a scrambling-optional Class 1. Note: last sign says 0.1 mile to snout of Rattlesnake Ledge but it's more like .05 miles, so be super careful not to extend your climb .05 miles off the cliff. Rock surface at top of ledge is quite stable, not chossy, so ate an apple up there in comfort and off belay. Saw only 1 other group on the trail, an experienced mountain guide with 2 clients practicing shortroping. Exposed summit but windchill minimal. Bring extra layers just in case (we had baselayers, softshells, fleeces, polypros, stormshells, etc.) All in all, a great objective, but be mindful of the risks!" — scott • Jul 12, 2011
