"I did a scramble with the Mountaineers, up Rampart Ridge and Alta Mountain. The weather was very clear, so the views were intense and gorgeous. We took the Rachel Lake trail up through Box Canyon. We went directly south from the lakes, up a moderate snow slope. There is a more direct snow slope to the left, but it is steeper and has a more dangerous run-out. On the way down we got in some glissades. The view from Rampart Ridge is pretty cool, looking straight down the cliffs. We went on to summit Alta Mountain on the same day.

"Foggy, wet day. Only had a few hours to be out so decided to take the shorter Rocky Run Trail. This trail is a vert bullet up to the alpine. Once up in the meadows, started to get a bit turned around. Fog was so dense couldn't see more than 50 yards ahead most of the time. Lost a crude footpath, spotted a false-cairn, and ended up inadvertently summiting Rampart Ridge South; was about 5600+ ft. The rocks at this point were totally slick, so instead of following the ridge decided to descend down to a tarn basin whose outline was just visible below. Here I picked up a path that eventually led me to the true summit of Rampart Ridge (after 20 or so map consultations). Managed to take the path all the way to the summit block where there's only 1 unexposed class 4 move (at least the way I went). Instead of down climbing this, decided to head straight down from the summit and around on some cliff ledges back to the path... an easier route. On a non-wet day, probably the best route would be to go straight up to the summit from the saddle below... although that's pure speculation because couldn't see anything. In hindsight the fog actually made this outing better; the feeling of r..." — scott • Aug 14, 2014
"Hit this summit from Rocky Run trail on the way to Alta Mountain. Lake Lillian and Laura were completely filled with fog at 8:30 am. A thick front from the west was pouring up and over the ridge and dispersing into the Rampart Lakes below as a haze of smoke moved in from the wildfires to the east." — Jeb • Sep 22, 2012
