I parked on Bassett Way In Ramona, where a horse trail crosses the street next to a dog park. I began hiking on the horse trail, which leads to Simon County Park. Ramona Benchmark is the high point in the park. To get to it, I followed the utility road that supports the power lines and goes up to the ridge between Ramona Benchmark and Spangler Peak. I turned right and continued on to Ramona Benchmark. I saw no actual benchmark on the high point, but there was an actual bench (but no mark).

After leaving Ramona Benchmark, I went south along the ridge toward Spangler Peak. Unlike the previous peak, the route to Spangler is unmaintained and a bit overgrown. The trail has some good overlook points over the city of Ramona. On the way to Spangler, the trail gets reduced to a use trail and eventually connects with an old road along an avocado grove. Finally the push up the side of Spangler Peak begins where the old road peters out. There is no trail to the summit. I had to find the passage of least resistance with a little bushwhacking and boulder scrambling. But mostly I was annoyed by all the stickers I was collecting in my socks. A boulder pile sits on top, so to make it official, I sat on the boulders. Despite being a shorter peak, Spangler was the more difficult of the two.
