"3.16.24~Pauleen & Rainbow View Peaks w/Jimmy. 6 miles, 800’ gain. We were Enjoying a break in the rain and of course the amazing views. I lost an air pod along the way so we back tracked with “find my” feature but the terrain makes it nearly impossible to find something that small. We forgot to grab a botttle of water from home and hiked with nothing but the clothes on our backs. I’ve never done that before but we didn’t really get thirsty. It was cool most of the time and partly cloudy. " — paula.raimondi • Mar 16, 2024
"Third time’s a charm. Woke up at 3:45am again this morning before work and set out for the ridge in the dark. This time I was able to find the route onto Pauleen Peak and extend the ridge out in the direction of Vegas to also bag Rainbow View Peak above Lake Las Vegas - the views as twilight opened up to dawn were unreal. Had the mountains all to myself. Ran back down, quick shower, back to work. 🤟🏼" — wiweasel • Nov 8, 2023
"Parked at the high pass of the Lava Butte Road & dropped into the valley, then climbed & crossed a favorite ridge. Continued up & over Rainbow View, down the other side & back up the valley." — StudioHoodoo • Oct 8, 2023
"Went out at the crack of dawn & did a loop over Rainbow View & Hummel before the storm hits. It was nice & cool, but very humid. The light is so beautiful out there at dawn & all the colors were saturated from the rain. It smelled so nice too. " — StudioHoodoo • Aug 19, 2023
"Rainbow Gardens is practically in my backyard & I go there a lot. There are so many possibilities out there & I almost never do the exact same routes twice. I've been to Rainbow View many times, but this time I went over the ridge to NE to get there. It's really neat with great views. My recommendation is to go out there with no preloaded GPS tracks, use your eyes & just go check out some of the neat ridges. It's a playground out there & some of the neatest places don't have any "prominence" or any names." — StudioHoodoo • Oct 16, 2022
"Took advantage of the cooler weather to avoid going to Mt. Charleston for one more week ;-) Rainbow Gardens is my favorite area for exercise, pretty views & no people. It's literally 10 minutes from my house. I have done many loops through this area & always do something a little different each time. I parked on the Lava Butte Road which I accessed from Hollywood Blvd. I took a pretty leisurely pace & rested about 5 minutes on each summit. " — StudioHoodoo • Jun 19, 2022
"Despite not feeling too great, I forced myself out early to my favorite backyard playground. I parked at the south end of the Lava Butte Road & hiked out the atv trail down the valley below Hummel, went up the NNE ridge of Hummel, descended the west side of Hummel right below the peak & hiked over to the ridge to Rainbow View, down the west side of Rainbow View back to my Jeep. I've done variations of this loop many times. Was glad to get out." — StudioHoodoo • Apr 3, 2022
"2.13.2021~3 Peak run/trek w/Jimmy. Rainbow View, Rainbow Ridge & Tricolor Peaks, Rainbow Gardens, NV. 7 miles, 1,200’ gain in 2:46hrs. We parked at a Wetlands Park connector trailhead then jogged up Lava Butte road to access the peaks. This area is so stunning & colorful. It’s a mini Grand Canyon experience but only 15 mins from my home. The views from the peaks are some of the best I’ve ever seen. I loved the groomed jeep trails for jogging and plan to come back for some long distance run/touring. Great area! I can’t get enough of Rainbow Gardens." — paula.raimondi • Feb 13, 2021
"Met with Bart & Anji to take them on the Hummel/Pauleen Peaks loop, since neither of them had been hiking much in this area. We tacked on Rainbow View Peak, which was pretty cool as well. There is so much beauty out here!" — Kevin • Dec 30, 2020
"Went out early to beat the heat. (When will it end?! Ugh!) Parked to the NNW on the Lava Butte Road at an obvious pullout where there is lots of trash. Fair warning, people use this pullout to shoot at stuff & then they leave it. It's pretty nasty. Despite this, once you get back off the road, it's very nice. From the pullout, I walked up the road a little further to an atv trail. I headed ESE to a spur atv trail that heads up between this peak & an obvious pinnacle. From the saddle between these, I headed directly east up the ridge. Did a loop over this one & out the ridge toward Pauleen over a volcanic bump in the middle that is about as high (or higher?). Looped back around & traversed the lower part of the ridge below here, descended off the end to the atv trail which I followed back to the road. This atv trail through the valley is not on maps. This area is very pretty. Sadly, they are considering putting a highway through here." — StudioHoodoo • Sep 27, 2020
