"This was a wonderfully exhausting loop hike and bushwhack. Hiked up to Villagers first via the regular trail and then on to Rabbit. This is truly an island in the sky: you traverse a range of altitudes. Every type of cactus under the sky as you climb, and finally pines and other greenery towards the top. I decided to make this a loop by descending the gully immediately southwest of Rabbit, and followed it down. While incredibly beautiful and remote, expect some difficulty scrambling in places, particularly as you come down the dry waterfalls. More than once I had a feeling I wouldn’t have minded having a partner belay me… While knees and arms did get scratched up, vegetation never gets out of hand and is always passable. Be alert on routefinding on the way down - at 3,200 elevation I left the gully for the next one to the South crossing a low saddle. The descent was followed by an endless traverse across dry washes (looks flat on the topo map, really more like a constant up and down!), and then a long hike on the perfectly smooth playa. Left car at 8am, wasn’t back at the trailhead before 11pm. Got home at 1am… Only follow this route if you’re ready for a big challenge. Hiking back..." — danishclimber • Mar 7, 2020
"We did Villager/Rabbit as a day hike, beginning at 5:05am and ending at 10:30pm, on an HPS hike led by Peter and Ignacia Doggett. I used over 7 liters of fluids, not including the two Gatorades I chugged before starting and after getting back to the car. Nice full moon at the start: we saw a bighorn (my first) near the beginning, and two scorpions at the end. The unending final descent over the bone crunching, slippery loose rock is grueling - See more at: http://peakery.com/villager-peak/#sthash.Rewx7L5y.dpuf" — HikerMark • Feb 15, 2014
