"Hiking day while the rocks dried out for some rock climbing. Found the route finding very straightforward. Too many cairns if anything. Complete TR: https://themtsarecalling.com/queen/" — Christopher • Mar 13, 2020

"Private trip with fellow Sierra Club WTC graduates/leaders to scout out a cross-country route on the peak between Rattlesnake Cove and the Queen Mountain trailhead. Personal stories, training on loose scree/talus, and much third class fun was had!" — ctrain2018 • Oct 28, 2018

"9/9 HPS peaks in Joshua Tree National Park hiked over the long weekend. I found this one to be the most challenging by far, due to the difficulty of the route-finding. It actually took me 2 attempts to get to the summit. The first attempt was in the late afternoon. I followed the HPS route along the road then east on a use trail to a well-ducked gully. Unfortunately that route topped out somewhere WEST of the summit, not in the saddle to the east as in the description. I think the route I followed is a climber's trail since it led to a part of the summit area with a number of impressive pinnacles and spires. I tried to contour around south of the peak, but found only cliffs. North would have meant losing a few hundred feet of elevation. I could see the summit from where I was, so it was frustrating, but eventually I hit my turn around time and went down. Sadly, I didn't print out a USGS 7.5" TOPO for this peak, instead relying on the route description as well as a Tom Harrison map with 200 ft contour intervals...basically worthless.
The next day, after hiking some other peaks in the park, I took another try, this time ignoring the HPS route, which I think is very misleading given ..." — klotito • Feb 15, 2015

"First summit of a two-peak day (followed by Warren Point). I had a bit of trouble finding my way to the true summit. I followed the gully up, and ended up following a well-ducked trail, a bit west of that gully, that took me around the west side of the summit to the north side. Then the ducks disappeared. I fought my way over to the saddle, dipped down a bit toward the south side, then found some more ducks that led me a bit further east and around that way to the true summit. The giant slanted slabs of rock leading up were fun in the wind...I did a bit crawling, and crab-walked my way down later. I was pleased to find Mar Bonfire's new register at the top; I was only the third signer...the others marked two separate visits by Mars earlier in the month! I seem fated to follow this hiking legend's footsteps, as he always seems to have visited the same peaks a few days before me. Incredible views....strong winds!
Coming down, I pretty much went straight down the fully on the south side. That didn't put me on the same trail I had taken up, however, and I got a bit confused about where my car was. I started in the right direction, but convinced myself that it was behind another smal..." — HikerMark • Mar 15, 2014

"Freezing cold day and windy. Followed steep southern chute to the summit. Maps differ on whether the east or west bump is the high point - we went for the west since it looked better. Icy and scrambly at the top. Awesome views!" — calipidder • Dec 26, 2008
