"This was part of our LVMC (Las Vegas Mountaineers Club) trip to Great Basin National Park. We started with 6 people - myself, K2, Amber, Laurie, Jessica and David. We hiked up Baker Creek Trail to Baker Lake, then made our way to the Pyramid/Johnson saddle. At this point, Jessica and David headed up to Pyramid Peak, since that was their only goal for the day. Amber, K2, Laurie and myself headed up to Johnson Peak. I headed over to Quartzite Peak while K2 napped. Amber & Laurie headed back to the Pyramid/Johnson saddle. When I got back to Johnson Peak from Quartzite, K2 was up and we headed to the saddle as well. Amber decided that she was going to skip the other peaks and hike out with Jessica and David. Laurie went up to Pyramid, then caught up with Amber, Jessica and David at Baker Lake; they all hiked out together. K2 and I went up to Pyramid Peak, then traversed the ridge down and back up to False Pyramid. This is where it got hairy - we descended off of the peak towards the east, down the steepest, most unconsolidated boulder field ever. It was exhausting and emotionally draining. We finally reached the South Fork Baker Creek Trail and hiked that back to the cars...." — Kevin • Jul 20, 2018
"Came up the trail from Baker Creek/ Baker Creek Campgrounds to the saddle between Johnson and Pyramid; took the use-trail up to the summit of Pyramid. I did not do any other peaks that day, although others in the group variously summitted Johnson, Quartzite, and also False Pyramid. I came back down Pyramid to the saddle on the Baker Creek trail and followed the trail back down; it was an out-and-back hike for me. This was summit #15 of the LVMC Classic 50 peaks for me! :)" — psychikingjes • Jul 20, 2018
"Took an Independence Day trip from Las Vegas up to Great Basin to knock out a few more LVMC50 peaks. We camped out Thursday night & got an early start on Friday. We took the Baker Lake Trail up to Baker Lake, then headed directly up the steep, boulder-strewn slope to East Baker Peak (the higher of the two). After a short break, we traversed down, then back up to West Baker Peak, which offers better views, but is a little shorter than East Baker. This is where it got interesting. In an effort to avoid doing 2 different hikes up the same trail, we decided to traverse the ridge over to Pyramid Peak as well. I heard rumors of giant boulder fields and horribly loose rock. The rumors weren't wrong. The traverse took a loooooong time and the wind was annoying. We were glad to be done with it, but still had Pyramid to climb, which looked like another damn boulder field. It was, but the footing was better. We spend a few minutes up there, behind the wind break, then made our way down. We took an old grown-over path back to where it intersected the Baker Lake Trail, then hiked back out. Saw some wild turkeys near the trailhead! 12.5 hours, over 17 miles & over 6,000 feet of gai..." — Kevin • Jul 4, 2014
