After arriving to Lake of the Falls and setting up a camp, I figured I still have the time to climb Purple Mountain. It took me longer than expected. The ascent face is crazy steep. It gains almost 700m in 950m direct line to the summit (!).I went up via a the major avalanche/rockslide gully. Short way up, I deviated to the grassy slope on climbers right. Once the imposing cliffs blocked my progress, I returned to the gully, which broadened considerably at this point. The gully is very loose. Extreme caution required to not dislodge rocks.

I plodded the gully to near the summit where I traversed left to bypass a cliff band. The two summit of Purple Mountain is just a giant pile of unstable rock, big and small. My GPS recorded both summits having the same elevation (2813m), well above official 2750m. I was surprised I didn't find a cairn on either summit. No sign of other climbers. This is not a frequently climbed mountain despite a close proximity to very popular Lake of the Falls.

Good moderate scramble with some routefinding. I recommend it to anyone visiting Lake of the Falls area.
