This is a circular route that begins in Refugio Postero Alto, located at 1,870 metres of altitude, located near Jérez del Marquesado. This beautiful town is located in the Marquesado de Zenete region on the the Sierra Nevada Natural Area's northern slope, on the border with the Guadix-Baza basin. The adventure starts when you drive with an ordinary car the 10.5 km dirt road (Ruta de Montaña) all the way to Postero Alto. The hike starts with an initial ascend on the northeastern slope Loma de Enmedio. After a 2 hours walk you reach Piedra de los Ladrones (2,944 m), located northwest of Puerto de Trévelez. Walking uphill through the stone desert brings you on the Cerro Pelado peak (3,182 m) without difficulty. To reach Puntal de Vacares (3,143 m) a counterclockwise encirclement is made around the Lagunas Juntillas. It is a rocky and challenging terrain.
