"6/7/25: J, A, K, and I started from Ptarmigan TH at 10:30 and made our way up Ptarmigan Trl. We took a decent break after gaining the ridge at tree line and the over-look at the Wilderness boundary and junction with the Loop trail. After negotiating some lingering snow drifts, we made the slog up to the trail high-point and the quick jaunt to the summit. The sky-island summit affords top shelf 360 views of the Gore, Ten Mile, and Central Front Ranges.
After another nice break, we made our way down the east side of the ridge off-trail looking for some glissade ops but the snow fields were too deep and soft to make it practical. Finally, at about 11,600 I was able to find a decent pitch with enough hard-pack to make a decent glissade while the others made their way back to the trail. We met back up at the junction overlook and made quick time back down the Ptarmigan Trl. Kev and I got enough separation on the way down to have time to bag Peak 9710 as well, which actually afforded perhaps the best views of Lake Dillon that there is. Overall a 10 rating for views on the day!

"We started off with clouds and a little rain, but it cleared pretty quickly. It was a steady climb of about 3100’ to get to the summit. From there we contoured along the ridgeline to Ptarmigan Pass (11,777’). We then unfortunately had to gain some elevation again to pick up the trail back to our cars. Clouds were building on the way down, and we got some sprinkles but nothing crazy. " — kaylam87 • Aug 10, 2017
