"From Cascade Saddle via Big Springs Park in Provo Canyon. Summitted Freedom Peak, East Provo Peak, and Provo Peak before descending to Squaw Peak Road and then bushwacking into Slate Canyon until we found the trail. Really great day until the bushwacking. The erosion bars were fun to hike in, lots of fun scrambling with some pulse pounding sections on Provo Peak's East Ridge. Took over 13 hours." — chilledsausage • Sep 6, 2015
"I'm just starting to begin hiking again, but went with a couple of friends that are in pretty good shape. Naturally, I was slowing them both down all day. They could probably have gone to the top in about 2 hours, but with me slowing us down it took about 4 hours. The hike is pretty steep at points, and about the last mile or so has shale almost the entire way up. Be prepared for a bit slower decent during that part (better safe than sorry).
I've heard of a lot of people getting lost on their way to the trailhead. We needed to have a vehicle with a higher clearance than a car to get there. Someone who is creative and used to driving off-road in a smaller vehicle might be able to do it, but I wouldn't risk it. The way to know that you have the right road is to look for a small loop that people use for motorcycles and ATVs off to the west side of the road. On the east side you will see an ATV trail, which becomes the actual trail after a half mile or so. Thought that this description might help some people avoid our experience of not going up as far the first time we attempted this." — BarnettD • Aug 25, 2012
"My Dad and I drove his truck to the west base on the Squaw Peak Road. We hiked up the north west ridge in 1:57. The weather was turning but we enjoyed a lunch and a great view from the top. It started really raining on our way down and we basically ran the whole way. Made it down in 53 minutes. The road was muddy on the way out and we almost got stuck but made it home safe!" — chilledsausage • Jul 14, 2012
"Drove to the base of Provo Peak on the Squaw Peak Trail road (coming from Springville took twice as long as driving from the Provo side). Fairly simple hike to the summit, although it is very steep with shale rock in some places" — zleifson • Aug 9, 2008
