"I hiked solo this morning . I left the trailhead at 8:09 under blue skies with temps in the low 60s. After crossing the northway overpass the trail is a steady climb to the summit. Beautiful views awaited at the summit. Returned to car at 10:13.

"With only a short time to spare, I used the auto road to my advantage with its lookout viewpoints on my way to the summit. I found only pin remains of a couple of USGS markers, along with some relics of the former firetower and associated buildings on top. Started out overcast but the sun broke through on the way down for a nice time at the Panorama lookout." — SteveM_StickMan • Aug 25, 2023
"Rode a motorcycle to Lake George from Massachusetts with 16 people on a total of 11 bikes. Nobody else was interested in hiking, so I took a day off from riding to scurry up this little mountain since the trailhead was within easy walking distance from our motel. At least three story steel staircase to a trail footbridge over I-87. Steep trail with almost no relief from the relentless gradient. Straight up, no switchbacks. Bare ledge, rocks and boulders. My phone battery died about a third of the way back down. Described as challenging, this hike kicked my 75 year old ass... but I recovered the next day well enough to put over 250 miles on the bike on a trip to Lake Placid and back to Lake George. My "high tech" gear consisted of high top sneakers, compression socks, and a repurposed old Wenger "SwissGear" laptop backpack. " — Big-Time • Jun 24, 2022
"Lost count how many times I’ve been up Prospect Mountain, today was as good as day as any to revisit. I’ve been struggling with a feeling of being seen, but looked right through by folks if that makes any sense? Our world is filled with mountains, physically and metamorphorically and how we choose to approach them in life will define us, you either give up or keep climbing. Do more of taking care of each other, less of attacking one another, more so now than ever. Keep climbing no matter what that may be for you. Our world can be a better place, if we learn how to treat each other as such. " — scottturner • Sep 19, 2021
"A trek with Bailey the Hiking Pup up Prospect for my broski Brandon on the eve of his "Freedom Day" when he took his own life one year ago. Fly high Broski. Also, on the eve of my mom's birthday (and incidentally Bailey's!). Brandon and mom loved Prospect Mountain. We had time on the way to Lake Placid to stop. Bailey has never been up Prospect. It was a fitting day for so many reasons. Tears were shed and memories made. Odd that Bailey's birthday, mom's birthday and Brandon's Freedom Day all fall on the same day. A beautiful day on the eve of such an important day. " — Mousetek • Sep 15, 2021
"Climbed with Chad Darling & Randy Sparks. Chad got the idea to climb this to view the fireworks for 4th of July, and it turned out to be an excellent plan. We packed an American flag into one of our bags and headed up the trail across the Northway around 18:00. The trail was easy to follow although pretty steep for such a short hike - it wound up taking us about an hour to summit. We erected the flag on a large stick at the summit and got to view about 10 different sets of fireworks, the most prominent being those at Lake George and Great Escape. There was a "meet up" group of about 20 other hikers on the summit with us. They were extremely excited for the photo opportunities with the flag we brought up- if a bit on the "too talkative" side during the fireworks shows. We had no issue getting back down the trail with our head lamps, and surprisingly didn't get eaten by bugs! Great climb and evening overall, definitely would like to do this again next year. "Took my mom up Prospect. It was the only time I could get her here as a few years later she was diagnosed with cancer. Memorable trip. She had a blast and for that, I'm happy and grateful. " — Mousetek • Sep 27, 2014

"Hiked to the top of Beautiful Prospect Mountain (2,021ft) in Lake George, NY. ~5 miles (+/- 1/2 mile) round trip it was not a bad way to spend a warm day threatening to be filled with passing showers. There was an interesting beginning to the hike as it began with an elevated walkway that crosses over the Adirondack Northway (Route I-87) [The texture of the stair treads were not found to be favorable by my friend's Golden Retriever]. The climb to the summit is difficult but rewarding-- difficult only b/c it doesn't offer many switchbacks, so it's a STEEP ascent. The REWARD was excellent views down into LAKE GEORGE! It was a cloudy day, and we did encounter 2 small rain showers during our trek-- so we did not see all 100 MILES of the views (as touted in tourist guides LOL) A point of interest---> The trail travels part the roadbed of an old funicular/ inclined plane railway (that served a once thriving summer hotel on the mountain). It was interesting to be walking amongst the reminants of that. [Found this definition on the web: A funicular, also known as an inclined plane or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rai..." — CiccheMariti • May 8, 2013
