This was Daryn’s CA P2K list finish! Only the second person to have complete this list. From Young’s Valley TH. Left at 6:45AM. Took us 3 hours to descend into Young’s Valley and climb back up to Rasberry Lake, about 7 miles. From the lake, bushwhacked up the ridge and followed the use trail up the ridge line. It was super hot, but we were able to cook off with snow patches. Higher up the ridge the climb became easy class 3. With the buschwhacking, heat and route finding, it took us 3 more hours just to climb a measly 2,000 ft from the lake. On the way down, Asaka and I ran ahead to swim in the lake. Apparently, Kerry slipped on a loose rock and tumbled down some ledges 20-30 ft. He broke his nose, got a concussion, cut his head, bruised his ribs and twisted his ankle. I learned about this later when Daryn ran down to the lake. We filled up water and Daryn ran back up 1,000 ft to wait with Kerry, while Asaka and I returned to the Trailhead to alert the other person in our party. A helicopter got Kerry later that afternoon and flew him to Medford. Daryn and Andrew hiked out afterward. An unfortunate way to celebrate such a tough list finish. Beautiful hike besides all of that.

Wow... glad they could extract him in such a remote place.
