From US-180 turn onto FR-4040. FR-4040 is not signed on US-180 and is difficult to see if coming from Reserve. Once you turn onto the road there is a forest service fiberglass sign. This road is best suited for high-clearance vehicles - if dry. Stay on the obvious FR-4040 to an unsigned junction (N33.7236, W108.9109). FR-4040 goes north through a stick-fence gate; what appears to be the main road becomes FR-4040C. I did not have a forest service map and my GPS map set did not show the split. I continued on down 4040C to a berm blocking the road. I hiked from the berm, it was 1.4 miles one way. I discovered FR-4040 on the ridge and hiked portions of it to the highpoint. I suggest having a 4WD vehicle. The road goes to the summit, its only a short walk to the actual highpoint.
