"3.29.2021~The 1942 Carole Lombard Crash site. This somber trek Included Peaks 7,461’, South Mt. Potosi & Mt. Potosi Highpoint. 11 miles, 4,500’ gain, 5:03hrs. My 2nd time here in 2 days. I wanted to come back alone and drop from the main ridge to find the crash site. I did all 3 peaks again since I was already up there...I Had to trudge down snow, mud & cliffs to get to reach the site.....What a horrible and tragic event. The plane almost made it over the mountain and was just about 400’ from clearing it. What a cold & lonely place for those 22 souls lives to violently end too soon. Her fate was decided by the flip of a coin when she tried to decide whether to take a train for fly. She and her Mother died. At least the were together. It’s been 79 years but I can feel the vibe of death. Rest Peacefully to all who perished. It happened the year my Mother was born. She’s gone too. It was a physically and emotionally taxing day." — paula.raimondi • Mar 29, 2021

"3.27.2021~Peak 7,461’, Potosi Mtn South & Mt. Potosi. 10 miles, 4,000’ gain, 4:17hrs w/Jimmy celebrating our 24 year Anniversary. He expressed that maybe one of theses days we could have a date that doesn’t require extreme cardio exhaustion :@) but that’s no fun! Wild horses greeted us near the trailhead. This is one of my favorite treks and reminds me of the Wild West. There was scant snow on the northern faces and in the shadows. My 4th time on Potosi and 1st time finding the register! "Nice road hike with my honey. Had the entire mountain to ourselves. Side note: I had to stop the track at the summit because my phone was almost dead. Double the mileage if you are using this." — acekelly • Apr 13, 2020

"Mt Potosi North & South Peaks with Colleen and Meaghan. Nearly 10 miles r.t. and 3,900’ gain. This is a Wild West Adventure route with Wild Horses (awkward), beautiful scenic views and 2 steep Summits at the Southern end of the Spring Mountains. After the 1st peak I was super cold from the wind and got nervous and thought about bailing out but my friends distracted me with chatting and we made it to the top! We enjoyed Pumpkin pie and my homemade healthy crumble that looked bad (from traveling in my pack) but tasted good. Thanks for a fun day guys!" — paula.raimondi • Dec 7, 2017

"LVMC hike up to Potosi, which is part of the LVMC 50 list. We hiked the road to Peak 7461, Potosi Mountain South, then finally Potosi! Weather was chilly & windy, but nothing too horrible. We passed Paula & Skip on our way down, as they were coming up." — Kevin • Nov 26, 2016

"Solo...It's been on my agenda for a long time to bag this peak. I got a map of the route via Goodsprings to take the access road to the summit. I didn't expect such an amazing experience with this route but it was next level, best that So NV has to offer! Beautiful healthy wild Mustangs everywhere! At the trailhead and along the hillsides in the first 1.5 miles of the hike and Solitude galore! Hawks soaring over the many barren burn areas along the way. Lightning must reek havoc on this mtn. Super steep. 3,800' gain bagging No. and So. summits. 9.5 miles in 3:55hr with 2:49 total moving time. Amazing day. There were even sandstone outcrops this far south and the area was surprisingly pristine for being close to a hillbilly town. Almost got hit head on in my car on the way back on 161 by a car passing another. I saw the whites of her eyes it was so close! Dangerous road to pass on with all the dips. "The road to the trailhead was paved most of the way, and a decent car could have it most of the way, if not all the way, to the gate.
The road up Potosi Mountain is probably the steepest road I've hiked (specifically, the first two miles or so). That said, due to the steepness, much of it is paved, and there was very little sand or gravel on the road, so at least slipping was not an issue. There was a bit of snow (1-4 inches in places) on the way up, but most of it was gone by the time of our decent." — Nuernberger • Apr 26, 2015
