"Potato Mountain - parked along the highway near the trailhead! It was getting boring on the way down so I started jogging back to the car! This route is shorter than the one starting from the Claremont Park. " — diane • Mar 4, 2025
"I started at the end of Padua Ave and hiked up the southwest firebreak, which is not marked on any maps and the trail was quite steep, and there was a peak along the trail with nice views. The hills are quite steep, and there are 3 of them. Once I reached the Potato summit, the views are quite nice and far reaching, although the wildfire haze. No one on top the day I went, there was a mound of potatoes at the summit, and the trail down to the saddle was quite nice with views. Then I headed down to the Claremont Wildenress Park and then I passed through some small forests as I headed down. At the time, the parkwas closed and a ranger caught me in the park, but she was nice and let me off with a warning. Then I just looped back on normal roads back to the trailhead." — lc444 • Feb 6, 2025
"9 miles round trip, 2000ft elevation gain from Claremont Wilderness Park. Trail is in great condition with good signage and a couple port-a-potty placed along the way up. Trail was fairly busy and the summit had a constant flow of people. Beautiful views down into the cities and up at Baldy and Cucamonga." — Space_Is_Big • Feb 12, 2023
"Been overdue to come back to Potato Mountain. Today was the day. Was an out and back effort on Palmer Evey Motorway. Had the summit to myself (after patiently waiting for a big group to leave). Several donated potatoes sit on the summit." — MikeTeeples • Apr 2, 2022
"Hiked from the Claremont wilderness park all the way to the Summit of potato mountain it was an absolutely gorgeous hike the whole way up with the surrounding mountains towering over the trail

"Nothing quite like an early morning peak hike, even if the peak is a small one. Completed this one in the morning, then climbed Windy Point in the early evening, while taking the afternoon off." — MikeTeeples • May 22, 2016
"Post Loma Linda interview, a quick stop on the drive home. Was drizzling when I set out but shifted to torential hail about a half mile from the top. Waited it out and the clouds lifted just as I hit the top." — Christopher • Nov 21, 2013
"Got to the peak via the Claremont Loop. The trail is all exposed fire road.Kind of a slow uphill most of the way and not much to see until you're at the top. A big plus is that I only passed a few cyclists and one person with dogs once I left the Claremont Loop." — Jbrewsters • Apr 22, 2012
"Walked up from the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, making it a 9-mile round trip. Started to drizzle a little just as I got to the summit so I had some hot tea (love the Jetboil) and walked down. Rained most of the way back." — jeffhubatka • Nov 20, 2011
