"Beautiful December day. First time I've climbed Poor Mountain with no leaves on the trees. Great views of Roanoke Valley, surrounding and distant mountains, and even downtown Roanoke. Clouds created beautiful texture. This is a tough climb. A solid 4.5 miles to the peak with 2,160+ feet of elevation gain. " — runshigleyrun • Dec 11, 2022
"A long, hot climb that seemed much more than the just over 2,000 feet of climbing achieved. A cool summer breeze and the canopy of the forest saved me. Various wildflowers blooming at the higher elevation of over 3,500 feet. So many peaks in this area are inaccessible unfortunately due to private property. Total shame as it is spectacular Blue Ridge beauty up there. I believe Poor Mountain is the highest peak in the surrounding mountains of Roanoke. Of course, the peak is crowded with various towers and high wattage. " — runshigleyrun • Jul 6, 2022
"Ran deep down and out of the canyon twice on a warm early autumn day. Leaves are just starting to change color in this biodiverse forest home of the endemic Piratebush. Outstanding trail system with serious climbing. " — runshigleyrun • Oct 3, 2021
