"A fun, pretty remote hike on a hot day. It was pushing 90, but it was breezy enough not to be stifling. Flies were bad at the trailhead but not particularly bad on the trail. The early part of the trail featured several staircases and some nice twisty-turny scrambles that kept things interesting. It was also pretty sloppy in some spots. Eventually, the trail takes a sharp left and goes into a few long switchbacks that climb very gradually. You get to a first nice viewpoint and start to see some stuff, but if you travel just a little further, you come to the area just below the summit sign, where you can hook a left onto a herd path and there's a great open ledge with fantastic views to the north and west. Right around the sign doesn't have much of a view, but that ledge is worth the walk. The flies were insane at the top. I debated heading back, but I knew Middle Mountain wasn't terribly far off. There were no mileage numbers on signs or maps, so it was kind of a guessing game. I thought it was about a half mile, so I decided to give it a go. It was about a 200-300 foot descent and then a very small climb to the top on Middle. There's no sign there, but a small viewpoint that looks..." — mikewilliamsjr • Jun 25, 2025

"NoBo AT Thru Hike 2016.
Tom was able to slack pack me for another 12 miles before he had to head back to NY and go back to work. I picked up my big bag again at mile 2049.8 and said goodbye, hopefully he will be able to come back out next week and join for for my finish on Katahdin. " — Kim-Stilson • Sep 21, 2016
"My trip planned for Gulf Hagas was postponed due to thunder showers in the area, so I decided to wait out the storms and then hit Pleasant Pond Mt. Five mile south of Caratunk I hit the last remaining showers. Perfect timing. I hit the trail at 11:15 and reached the summit at 12:00. the rocks and roots along the way were a bit slick. I wasn't in any hurry so the pace was relaxed. The views weren't great due to trees on the summit and low clouds on the horizon. But you know what, it was still a great day for a hike.
