"On Carbonara after Palermo I ummed and aahed as to whether to go up Pizzo Antenna and return the same route to start point, or do this and go back a different route. Opted for the latter. Difficult underfoot with the bowling ball size rubble of rocks, which meant you needed to keep your eye on the ground (difficult with clear skies and stunning views). I saw two deer, which had chocolate brown coats, that were frightened of me though I meant them no harm. I'd assumed this would be straightforward along the ridge, but there was a drop before it and the going looked a little gnarly, so I walked to the sella with Peak 1922, then went straight up, which involved something like 30 metres of scramble. At the top I saw a pair of eagles soaring on the thermals. Walking south a bit I rejoined the path (which would have made for an easier ascent), then along this made my way down to the road to the south (much nicer than walking on the scree), and walked east to rejoin the car at Piano Battaglia." — vygodski • Nov 18, 2024
