Day 5 ski touring in the Chugach Mountains in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, part of a 24 million acre protected wilderness area, the largest in the world. We started skinning from the amazing Tebay Lodge and gradually made our way up the long Schnee Huhn Ridge skinning, booting, and then skinning onto the summit of Pi's Peak, named for the late legend ski mountaineer Peter "Pi" Inglis. From there it was great pow conditions dropping into the northern bowl before a booter up a col to the south of the Hombi Horn. Chris and I hit a sweet-yet-rocky chute down to the Gulo Valley where we watched Jay and Hannis ski a sick looking 2000' 45° couloir on a peak across the valley. After a skin up the slopes under the Hombi Horn, we skied all the way back to the lake and thanks to a snowmobile tow across the lake by Jay made it back in time for soup. A great finale to an incredible week of ski touring in the most remote place I’ve ever been.
