12.2.19~Pilot Cone Volcano. 8.2 miles, 1,100’ gain, 3hrs. I meant to recon a dirt road but I ended up going for it. I only had a short amount of time to do this before picking the kids up from school so it was stressful descending this fast. 4 miles was running across benign, flat desert terrain. The other 4 was scampering in lava fields and scrambling up huge boulders to the summit cone. It was a unique and challenging mountain and I really enjoyed running across the desert to and from. It was so quiet and serene. I have to remember to pack a pencil. I couldn’t sign in to the prescription bottle register that didn’t contain one.
