Sierra Challenge 2009. Unlike the rest of the participants, Glenn, Sam and I approached Spire Col from the north. The advantage: saved 2500' of elevation gain and extra sleep. Disadvantage: carrying rock climbing equipment as Spire Col from the north is a Class 5 loose chute. We met some of the participants descending as we climbed the west ridge to the top. The cross-country route through Little Lakes drainage and below Bear Creek Spire was gorgeous as usual.
