While looking for a peaceful Sunday stroll (with a few peaks added), I found what I was seeking on the Ridgeline Trail in San Clemente. The hike begins in Steed Park behind the skate park. The paved trail climbs quickly to a ridge. Along the ridge, the trail forms a horseshoe shape. I went left first and went all the way to Clemente Benchmark, which has a water tank on top. Clemente Benchmark is developed, with an entire neighborhood on its ocean facing slopes. The true summit is also fenced off along with the water tank. I then retreated to Peak 906, which I had bypassed earlier. The summit overlooks the entire trail system and has great views toward the ocean. To complete the horseshoe, I followed the trail to Knob Hill. There were some pretty good ups and downs along the way before topping out where the trail ended on top of Knob Hill. Despite the trail being built within a residential neighborhood, no homes are even close to the trail. The ridge stands well above the homes and businesses below.
