I had in mind to climb to Green Benchmark (7,322') above Green Valley Lake. I hiked on Forest Service Rd 2N19 from where it first intersects Green Valley Lake Rd. at about 6,500' elevation, about 1.1 mi northwest from Hwy 18. I hiked on for awhile, and missed the steep jeep ramp that comes up and branches north before the road is briefly split by a small island of pines and rejoins very shortly later. I didn't realize that my time on 2N19 would be so brief. I kept on hiking and hiking and found myself pretty far out on 2N19, not knowing for sure, but suspecting that I missed the turn off! When 2N19 joins the crest now east-southeast of Green Valley Lake, where it joins 2N13, and before it descends, there are some small peaklets on both sides of the dirt road. I soon left the road and went northeast down a canyon and up and around a small, rocky knob, and up to a bouldery peak. I tried in vain to see if I could find a benchmark, so I figured that I went too far for Green BM. There are several class 3 and Class 4 boulders, but I only went partially up a class 3 one. This would be Peak 7500. I then dipped southeast to a shallow, ceanothus filled draw and climbed and waded through the poky brush to the next peak, just a little higher than 7500. This peak had no BM either, and would be Peak 7575. I figured that if I could head southwest, I could rejoin the road without too much steep descent. I then went for it, and then backtracked a little up a gully to the southeast whereby I met another dirt road I followed back west to rejoin the junction of 2N19/2N13. I followed 2N19 in reverse back to my car. When I went home and checked out Google Earth, I found out that I went miles past Green BM and visited 2 very random peaks (7500/7575) that I had never even heard of and are not even listed on Peakbagger! I went for a small adventure and ended up with quite a big one!! P.S. 2N19 is in bad shape due to many blowdowns from the previous winter's crazy weather!!
