"Parked at a familiar spot from when I went to Kratka Ridge. This time I turned left at the bench and followed an old road to where it petered out near the top. From there, it was a right turn and a short walk to the summit." — MikeTeeples • Jun 30, 2019
"After 4 weeks of not hiking due to new work schedules, my friend Brett met me after work on a Saturday, and we did a short afternoon visit to the San Gabriels, and hit up Vista Picnic Area and did the very short hike to 7160 and enjoyed some time in the pines. Short, steep, but easy hike with just under 1/2 mi r/t, and about 330' elevation gain. Peak is to left of the saddle on top of Vista Picnic Area." — brianpowell • May 25, 2019

Turn left (east) and begin a very short but very steep climb up an old abandoned roadbed up the north flank of 7160 (very lushly shaded by tall Ponderosa, Jeffrey, Sugar Pines, and White Firs) to where the roadbed curves to the east face of the peak and almost on top of it, and walk west a very short minute to the summit. Despite being close to the highway and hearing some traffic, the area has a nice vibe, secluded feel, and enough room to set up camp. 7160 is just east of Kratka Ridge, so heading right (west) at the bench, you'd climb a steep use trail to Kratka's summit, so combining both would be a very steep but easy feat with a total round trip about 2-2.5 mi with 1,000' climbing. On this day, I only did 7160 alone because just an hour before, I had just completed a 2.4 mi r/t hike up Mt. Sally further west along Angeles Crest! The trees and v..." — brianpowell • Oct 21, 2018
