I was in the mood for some easy hiking before poking around in the Buckhorn Campground to admire the huge Incense-Cedars, so I decided to revisit 2 peaks I did back in 2017, Peak 7118 and Buckhorn Peak (Akawie). I never logged 7118 because it was not on the site then. I parked at a large turnout on Angeles Crest Hwy. at mile marker 57.55, between Cloudburst Summit and Buckhorn Day Use Area, right near Mt. Waterman Ski Area. There is no trail to 7118, so I hiked up the slope to the northeast a relatively short distance to the summit. This time, I forgot to take any photos on top, but I did record video, so check out my YouTube links here. After 7118, I went down the east slope and picked up a use trail that would lead me to the very nearby Mt. Akawie (Buckhorn Peak) and made the short ascent to its summit. I did remember to take some pictures on Akawie in addition to the videos. I followed the use trail back to an old roadbed leading back to a Turnout on Angeles Crest that was only 50' away from the turnout I parked at! It was a mellow hike, and it would be perfect in summer since the area is well-forested. This time, there is a new summit register on Mt. Akawie, placed earlier this year (2019). There was no register back in 2017 when I first visited the peak.
