"A warm afternoon in the Cabo Tiñoso Nature Reserve, where I hiked part of the GR92 Mediterranean Trail and climbed these three peaks. The views were truly beautiful, and the birds and insects were quite active, I suppose due to the afternoon's heat. The pilgrims had grown abundantly, narrowing the trail slightly. The sea was calm, and a few catamarans took advantage of the opportunity to anchor in nearby coves. As the sun set, the sky turned red, and for a long time, all that was left to do was enjoy the spectacle." — franciscobirruezo • Oct 3, 2025
"A blustery afternoon with a strong storm in the Cabo Tiñoso protected area. I was eager to get closer to this area to see the changes in vegetation in a semi-arid area caused by the intense March rains.
I didn't meet anyone else along the GR-92 Camino del Mediterraneo trail. Rockrose, thyme, and lavender grew along the sides of the stony path while in the distance the waves crashed against the coast. The sky threatened rain that never really fell. I first climbed Cerro de los Siete Cucones and then headed west to peaks 305 and 299 m. I came across a small cave that was perhaps inhabited many years ago, judging by the traces of soot and mud I saw inside. I arrived near La Panadera, which I didn't climb today because I preferred to head west to La Picadera. Near the top of La Picadera, a thorny bush warned me as I approached to explore another cave. Some choughs approach, somersaulting in the air, to find out my intentions, and I have to say that this afternoon I feel as free as they do." — franciscobirruezo • Mar 23, 2025
"Beautiful route in Cabo Tiñoso following the GR-92 trail from La Picadera towards the West to end in Cabezo de La Panadera. Blue sky and rough sea with moderate easterly wind. I can't find anyone else on the route this afternoon, I am surprised by the abundant flowering of rosemary, lavender and immortelle, perhaps it rained on the coast in recent weeks. The waves break strongly on the coast of La Azohia and from above you can hear the raging sea. Good views of Mazarrón Bay from here." — franciscobirruezo • May 21, 2024
"To get this mountain you have to get to Puerto de Mazarrón and take the road E-23 to the Village of Campillo de Adentro.
Today I am going to the area of Puerto de Mazarrón to do this route that starts near the village of Campillo de Adentro, the views of the Mediterranean are good following the GR-92 path that runs along the entire coast. From the Cerro de los Siete Cucones and heading west until you reach Cabezo de La Panadera. I bring my lunch so I go slowly trying to see what nature offers me, birds, some reptiles, butterflies and insects.
I bump into a couple of mountain bikers who are literally playing Russian roulette on two- or three-foot-wide, drop-off sections of the trail.
I also discover some small cave and go inside a bit to see if there is anything interesting inside." — franciscobirruezo • Mar 4, 2023
"Before reaching this hill we have also climbed Los Siete Cucones which is in the middle. This landscape is desert and was a military zone but there are coastal areas that can only be accessed by boat. The trails are easy to find due to the absence of trees. Upon returning we have surrounded 7 Cucones and we have found the remains of a car that was thrown down years ago or that was used as a target in military maneuvers. It's a mystery how it got there." — franciscobirruezo • Sep 2, 2018
