"The climb to Peak 251m offers a route through rugged terrain leading to the Torre del Castillo de Santa Bárbara, a historic fortification with deep roots in the region’s past. Nearby, the Ermita de Santa Bárbara, a small chapel, adds to the cultural significance of the area. The castle itself dates back to the 9th century, originally built during Muslim rule as a defensive stronghold. It was later captured by Castilian forces in 1248 and named after Saint Barbara, whose feast day coincided with the conquest. Over the centuries, it underwent several reconstructions under James II of Aragon, Peter IV, Charles I, and Philip II, adapting to changing military needs. The fortress played a role in conflicts such as the War of the Spanish Succession and was even used as a prison in later years. Today, the climb provides a mix of history and panoramic views, with the castle standing as a reminder of the region’s layered past.
