"Today the sun is filtered through the haze, but the breeze is pleasant. I park near the old watchtower and take the path that leads to the north side of the cape.
Many yellow flowers and lavender line the rocky path that hugs the cliffs, and down below, some fishermen prepare their lines, hoping for the prized catch.
A red-tailed lizard scurries from behind the bushes as I approach.
I continue climbing, wondering how the prehistoric inhabitants lived here. They probably ate fish and perhaps rabbits and some birds. They certainly had beautiful views and must have been strong enough to climb up and down these mountains." — franciscobirruezo • Apr 11, 2026
"9 Mar 2026 — Climbing the southern cliff of 🏔️Cabo Cope (Aguillas, Murcia), with the impressive Cueva C‑6 “La Catedral”, was a challenge. This cave sits high on the cliffs and is known for its dramatic entrance, archaeological history, and tough access. From there we crossed the plateau to Cocón de Cope, marked by its geodesic point, and explored the surrounding sub‑peaks. Wild coastline, rugged terrain, and stunning views." — belgianIbex • Mar 9, 2026
"An interesting climb up these mountains in Cabo Cope Natural Park. I leave the car in the town of Calabardina and take the trail that climbs steeply up the north side.
I see that the autumn rains have brought the area back to life; lavender flowers and the occasional orange-tipped butterfly add a touch of color to this semi-desert landscape.
I climb to the Cocón de Cope and from there towards peak 211. Further on, I see a group of students and their teacher on a field trip.
Afterwards, I climb again towards the geodetic marker, where after a while, the teenagers also arrive with their teacher, who points out the surrounding mountains and warns them not to go near the cliffs.
The kids look fresh, while the teacher is practically out of breath from the effort of the climb.
The views are magnificent, as always, along both sides of the Mediterranean coast." — franciscobirruezo • Oct 29, 2025
"Embark on an exhilarating hike starting from the south side, taking on the challenging route with rugged terrain and steep inclines. This path offers breathtaking views and a rewarding experience as you conquer the tougher sections. As you join the PR-MU 104 trail, you'll be greeted by a scenic path leading to Cabo Cope, or Cocón del Cope.
This 3.4-kilometer out-and-back trail near Águilas, Murcia, is generally considered moderately challenging and takes about 1 hour and 21 minutes to complete. The route is open year-round and is perfect for hiking, with the added bonus of encountering few other people during your exploration. The trail is known for its rocky terrain, wildflowers, and historic sites, making it a picturesque and pleasant hike. If you're looking for a beautiful, short hike with stunning views, the Cocón de Cope via the PRA trail is a fantastic choice. Enjoy your hike! 🌄
