"Peak 1,938 is one of two, possibly three, ranked peaks in Allegany State Park with at least 300 feet of prominence. There is an old, dilapidated firetower a half-mile northwest of the summit that's on Seneca Nation land. I visited the tower last year and wasn't able to make it all the way up because entire flights of steps were missing.
Today, I was expecting an unchallenging road walk followed by a short but steep push up the mountain. Those expectations went out the window after finding out that Holts Run Road is a dead-end street that abruptly ends less than 0.5 miles from its southern intersection with Route 280. The online mapping services that show Holts Run being a continuous road are WRONG! It's also worth mentioning that the northern entrance is blocked by a gate. I don't know if this is seasonal or not.
Not wanting to drive back and forth, I opted to park at the southern dead-end and approach 1,938 from there. Bushwhacking to the base of the mountain was an exercise in suckitude.
