"Part of the normally annual Mount Hotham SOTA Summit - a gathering of SOTA Activators at Mount Hotham Ski Resort as a base for SOTA activations in the area. Travelled from Hotham out to Mt St Bernard and then along Twins Road, heading to Mt Murray. We found a large tree across the road, so headed back to climb VK3/VE-023 Peak 1646 m. I dropped Rik VK3EQ and Gerard VK2IO near the high point of the road and they climbed onto the ridge to gain the Australia Alps Walking Track, which they followed to the summit. Meanwhile, I drove to the saddle between the summit and The Twins to park. I then climbed up the steep AAWT to the summit. We all qualified the summit before heading west along the ridge for a few hundred metres and descending to the road and walking back to car. We stopped to have lunch, sheltering from the strong wind. We decided to abort attempting The Twins due to the strong winds and drove back to the Great Alpine Road and across Hotham towards Omeo. Wed rove up the 4WD track to reach Peak 1322 m VK3/VG-030 to set up and activate. After we had all qualified, we packed up, drove down to Omeo and then south to reach Mount Gingee Munjie VK3/VG-064. "Another day trip from Wodonga. Headed south to Porepunkah, then south into the mountains. Made my way up to Mount Murray. Climbed up to the summit trig after crossing the shallow saddle. Set up the radio gear to activate VK3/VE-025, making 27 contacts.
Packed up and returned to the car. Drove along Twins Jeep Track to the saddle south of The Twins to park. Climbed up the spur to the summit of Peak 1646 m. Set up on the summit and worked 27 stations to activate VK3/VE-023. Packed up and climbed back down to the car. Drove around to the Great Alpine Road and down to Harrietville, then up Cemetery Lane to Shamrock Track and up onto the main spur. Turned north and along Wet Gully Track to reach Peak 1255 m. I parked the car down the track from the summit and climbed up the track to set up at the summit. Activated VK3/VE-081 Ebenezer Range, making 15 contacts. Packed up and retraced my access route back towards Harrietville before heading back to Wodonga." — peterfreeman • Dec 30, 2013
